Avoiding Accidental Injuries While Travelling

Many travellers don’t make it home simply because they’ve had an accident of some sort. Take extra care and precautions to make sure you’re not one of them.

Accidental injuries and deaths for travellers have three notable and common causes.

ROAD ACCIDENTS WHEN TRAVELLING

The most common accidental injury suffered by travellers is from being in a road accident. This is the main cause of death and injury to overseas travellers. You need to remember you are travelling in a foreign place and the rules and regulations may be different from those you are used to back home. Make sure you know what the road rules are and be aware of any other regulations that may impact your travels.

DROWNING

Drowning is another common form of death for overseas travellers. Morbid we know, but when you swim in unfamiliar places you may not be aware of all the risks. Again, be vigilant and make sure you know the details of rivers, lakes and oceans and their currents / dangers before taking to the water.

DRUG AND ALCOHOL ABUSE

Drugs and alcohol also lead to many injuries and deaths for overseas travellers. When you are under the influence of drugs and alcohol, your reasoning is severely impacted and you may forget the particular road rules and regulations. The best precaution you can take in this instance is to behave responsibly.
